Proofs of Blogger Inline Comment That Unfriendly To Mobile Browser

I have told you that Blogger inline comment form that is currently under drafting does not support mobile users. Blogger comment form does not appear on Blackberry push browser or Opera Mini.

I am not joking but telling you the truth. To ensure you, I will give you the proofs. I have captured two screen shots from my Blackberry screen. A screen shot of Blackberry push browser screen and the other is Opera Mini screen.

bbscreen[1]

bbscreen[2]

I am sorry for giving you screen shots of blog written in Bahasa Indonesia. I will explain you where the comment form shall appear.

OK, look at "Posting sebuah komentar" it means "post a comment". In a PC browser, comment form appears below that sentence. Look at image below as a comparison to that two screen shot images.

I am afraid that mobile users are viewed unimportant by Blogger.

WordPress is not The Best Blog Engine

Sorry if you guys think that WordPress is the best blog engine on the world. I don't think so.

In my views, the best blog engine has to have one or more things another blog engines don't have. The facts given to us are not saying that WordPress has something other blog engines don't have.

OK. OK. I know you will say that WordPress have an ability to create static pages that other blog engine like Blogger does not have. Yes, WordPress has it and Blogger does not. But, TypePad has. Mambo and Joomla have too. If I am not mistaken, b2evolution also has that feature.

To that extend, I don't see a feature that WordPress has and other blog engines don't. But, I can show you features that Blogger has by default but WordPress does not have. They are blogsend address and send post by mail.

Blogsend address

With Blogger, we can automatically send my new post to an email address that is set on our blog settings. Every time me publish new posts, that posts will be sent to the email address we have saved. That feature help me in backing up my blog post to another blog that has post by mail feature.

WordPress does not have this blogsend mail facility.

Send post/article by mail

Blogger by default give its users this facility. Every post has an envelope icon that can be enabled or disabled. By default, it is enabled. This envelope icon, if clicked, can be used to send that post to our friends by email. Simply click the envelope and type in email addresses we want to deliver the post.

What about WordPress? Let me tell you that WordPress does not have it by default. You have to install a third party plugin to have that feature on your blog.

-*-

Then, will you say WordPress is the best blog engine on the world after that facts disclosure?

Must A Blog Have Pages?

Hello bloggers. Let me ask you a question about blog. Must a blog have pages?

I raised that question because Blogportant uses Blogger that as you might know, Blogger has no paging feature. Blogger has no ability to create a page like what its rivals can do.

In my views, blog that evolved from a web log to online journal then become creatures like what we find on the internet nowadays has no page. Blog has posts but not pages. But, in reality, there are blogs that have pages because their blogging engine like WordPress, TypePad,  B2Evolution, etc.support bloggers to create pages.

Then, what is your views? Must a blog have pages?

Your answer will have consequences. If you answer that bloh must have pages, I will ask Blogger to provide the feature for us. On the other hand, if you say blogger must not have pages, I will let it like what I have been receiving so far.

I myself think that in some cases a blogger has to provide one or two pages on his/her blog. About me page is the page that most bloggers provide on their blog. Other blogger completes with Contact page. What never left is Privacy Policy page.

Without the supported feature to create a page, Blogger users have to be creative. We can make a post containing the information that will be covered and then make a link to that post on our blog navigation. Just do not give up. Everything is possible to do. Indonesian people no rattan we can use root to mention that we can use other material to substitute unavailable material.

Advanced Commenting System For Your Blogger Blog

Reader's comment is important to blog. Without comments, blog is like a dry lake. No fish is alive there. With comments, blog is like a spring blossom. There are green leaves freshen the air.

image I have a good news for you about our beloved Blogger commenting system. I have found that we no longer need to hack our template using Jacky Supit's hack to display our comment form under post. I don't say that Jacky's hack is bad. No! It is awesome hack and I really am benefited from that hack. But, I have found a new way to show the same display using a service from Intense Debate. We will get comment form under post and threaded comment as well.

I think that it come to us like a savior. Saving us from a long deadly thirst. I remember those days where Blogger has not had it's own commenting system. HaloScan saved us once.

WordPress.Com Increase Free Space to 3GB. Will Blogger Follow?

On Januari 21, Matt Mullenweg announced that WordPress.Com has increased the free space capacity from 50MB to 3GB. It was a great happy news for wordpressors. On past days, people have to buy a credit to upgrade their space to 3GB. Rovicky is the one who has bought a credit to upgrade his famous blog storage.

Matt also wrote that Blogger storage was 1GB. As a Blogger user, I wonder if Blogger will follow WordPress.Com and give more storage to its user. Google is much bigger than WordPress.Com. So, I think that Google will take some action in reaction to WordPress.com movement.

As far as I know, there are Blogger users moved to WordPress.Com. They were attracted by WordPress.com's features that more interesting than what Blogger over. One of the most influencing factor is the ease to import all of posts and comments from Blogger to WordPress but not vice versa. Blogger user has no tool to import posts and comments from worpdress's blog.

This war in winning user registration will continue. If Blogger is satisfied with what they offer, I think that WordPress.Com will attract more Blogger's user to move their blog to WordPress.com.

Wish List to Blogger

After publishing Wish List to Windows Live Writer I need to post another wish list. Now, I will list my expectations to my blog engine, that is Blogger!

I have been using Blogger since 2001. It was my first blog engine. An engine that introduced me to blogging world. I remember when Blogger had no commenting system and bloggers inserted commenting system from Halo Scan. Even right now, there are bloggers using Halo Scan for their blog using New Blogger. Cek this doctor's blog for example.

As a blogger, I was used to use Blogger, WordPress and WordPress.com. Frankly speaking, I ever moved from Blogger to WordPress.com for some reason:

  • WordPress.com is so light and in Indonesia I feel a wordpress.com blog is loaded faster than a Blogger blog.
  • Simple commenting system. With WordPress.com, blog visitors will directly faced with comment form when the page load completed after they clicking read more or blog post title. On a Blogger blog, we have to click again to be directed to a comment form. That is Post a comment link! People does not like that. They want to be given a simple and ease way to leave a comment.
  • Blog of The Day or Hot post. WordPress.com provide its user with BOTD in their laguage. WordPressians often feel proud if their blog are listed on BOTD. Then, with hot post (I forget what its name) wordpressians are noticed with what people are reading about. The hot posts that most people read are listed on a page below dashboard.
  • Ability to make a page in addition to a post. WordPress.com is facilitated with ability to build a multipage site. We can choose to write a post or write a page. Write a post is used to create a blog post. Write a page is used by users to create a static page. Blogger has not provide that facility.

Now people are moving from Blogger to WordPress.com. I think, Bloger have to improve its blog engine to retain the rest loyal Bloggerians ot to win back the unsatisfied users. My expectations to Blogger are related to three points above.

  1. Make a blogger blog lighter
  2. Simple and ease commenting system
  3. BOTD or hot posts displayed in user dashboard (in their language)
  4. Create a page facility

Looking forward to Blogger's respons soon.

The place to look for Blogger hack and Google Adsense Tips

I wanted to apply Google adsense since last year. But, I did not publish English blog. We all know that Google Adsense only accepts English written blog. Later I found that other languages were also supported by Google Adsense. But, not my language, Bahasa Indonesia. Facing that fact, I try to run an English written blog to be eligible to apply Google Adsense. Then, this is my English written Blog. I try to place Google adsense on this blog.

I also wanted my blog to have some Blogger hacks installed in. I surfed the internet and found these two blogs where I got both of Blogger hacks and some important tips about how to inserting Google adsense in to your blog post (New Blogger).

I want you to have a visit to that blogs. Below are the links:
