Marketing Yourself Online

The first step to marketing yourself on the internet is deciding what it is you want to offer to people. This could be a variety of things: Are you a business minded person who wants to sell products online? Are you a writer who believes you have something to offer with your ability to create with your words? Although some people may disagree, all people have talents. Finding your talent or talents is the first step to succeeding online.

Once you have decided upon your niche, you must market yourself in a way that makes others want to utilize your products or services. Many people despise talking themselves up, but this is the time you must do this. Why are you the person for the job? What makes your products and services different and better than the multitude of others out there? For almost any idea, there are many others with the same or similar one, so you have to find methods of delivering your services in unique ways. This allows your business to stand out amongst the many others.

Online marketing is not something that happens overnight. Through your creativity and perseverance, however, you will find ways to bring some of the business right to your own doorstep, while you are also knocking on the doors where prospective business deals await.

Google Alerts: Deploy Your Own Internet Spies

While this free Google tool is by no means new (launched in 2004), I’m constantly surprised by how many people not only don’t use it, but have never even heard of it. Let’s take a closer look at this wonderful tool and examine how it can save you time, spark ideas and help you stay ahead of the curve (and your competition)…

By definition, Google Alerts are simply e-mail notifications that list the latest and most relevant website pages, blog posts and videos that have been found by Google’s search engine spiders related to a particular search term or topic. Note that I included “most relevant”. This is important because if Google sent you EVERYTHING they find on a particular topic, this list could get out of hand real quick. They actually only send you the most relevant website pages, blog posts or videos that make it into the coveted top 20 search results. You can also specify the frequency in which you want to receive these e-mails (one a day, once a week or once a month).

So Why Should I Use Google Alerts?

Let’s get an example started so you can wrap your brains around the benefits. Say you’re a consultant specializing in training clients in the art of underwater basket weaving. As a specialist in this niche field, you obviously want to stay on top of the latest underwater basket weaving techniques, industry happenings and competitors that may be offering new services. And don’t forget that you will want to find out if your own internet marketing efforts are paying off in the form of other websites and blogs linking to you or using your name or company as an expert reference. All this is valuable information, but just imagine how many hours you'd have to spend surfing the web to find it all?

Let’s Get an Alert Started…Step By Step:

1. Go to http://www.google.com/alerts.

2. In the “Create a Google Alert” box on the right, insert your keyword in quotes, i.e. “underwater basket weaving training”. Using quotes will help ensure relevant results.

3. Select the Type of alert (news, web, blog, video, groups or comprehensive (all)).

4. Select your desired e-mail frequency.

5. Enter your e-mail address and you’re done!

6. And repeat…Enter your next keyword phrase, i.e. your company name, your name, a competitive company name, etc.

If you select daily notifications under the category of “web”, tomorrow you will start receiving the latest website pages that are being indexed by Google for your specific keywords/phrases. If you input very specific, niche terms, you may not get much on a normal basis. But if your keyword/phrase is more generic, you may find that you are getting too much and you need to refine your alert keywords.

Valuable Intel

After setting up a few alerts, here are some ways my small business clients have used the information to monitor their industry and improve their overall marketing efforts.

1. Keep Tabs On Your Own Internet Presence – Besides the obvious egocentric notion of this, Google Alerts are very helpful for monitoring your online reputation, backlinks (other websites that link to you) and search engine optimization efforts. For example, as you develop new content for your website, sign up for a new social networking website, or another website references an underwater basket weaving article on your website, all this content will eventually be indexed by Google. Alerts will notify you the day that it happens.

2. Keep Tabs On Your Industry – Whether you want the latest news and announcements related to your industry products/services, or you’re looking for opportunities that might spark new business, Google Alerts does the work for you.

3. Keep Tabs On Your Competitors – Spying on your competitors has never been easier. Creating alerts with their company name, products or services is a great way to find out what they’ve been up to. You can also find out in which forums, blogs or industry websites they are participating.

4. Get New Content Ideas – Do you provide industry news on your website or blog? Google Alerts brings you timely news and industry information that might just be the creative spark that you needed to write your next article.

5. Save Time Surfing – As I’ve already mentioned, Google Alerts’ e-mail notification functionality brings the most relevant content right to your inbox. No more long hours surfing the web looking for the latest happenings.

Stay Ahead of the Curve

As Ferris Bueller always said, “the world moves pretty fast...” Keeping up with your daily marketing and sales activities is hard enough, let alone trying to stay abreast of everything that is happening around you. Google Alerts is a wonderful tool that does a lot of the legwork for you and may just provide a piece of intel that lands you a big sale.

Put Purity Back To Gain Market Acceptance

Indonesia was acknowledged as a producer of coffee. The quality of Indonesian origin coffee was admitted by international market. And, to let you know, coffee has been exported from Indonesia since The Dutch colonialism era. Since hundreds years ago coffee from Indonesia has satisfied European tongues. Europe was the first market of every Indonesian origin products during Dutch colonialism. No one argued about the quality of Indonesian origin coffee that time.

Unfortunately, recently coffee from Indonesia was rejected by many importer countries. They know are questioning quality of coffee from Indonesia that has turned from high to low level. More specific, they said that coffee from Indonesia has lost its original taste.

What was happened with Indonesian coffee?

From Media Indonesia (printed edition) today, I read that Indonesian coffee exporter mixed coffee originated from different plantation areas. That practice of combining different coffee resulted the loss of original taste of Indonesian coffee. Shipped coffee was not the same with submitted sample. I don't see what Indonesian coffee exporters did was right. They dig their own graves by doing unfair business.

Winning back the market trust is not easy. Indonesian coffee exporters have to convince themselves and their importers partner that they will not mixed different coffee again. Indonesian coffee importers, then, have to market every variety of coffee and brand them with its origin source name. Java Coffee, Toraja Coffee, Medan Coffee, and so on. What will become barrier is the fact that the brand Toraja Coffee and Gayo Coffee have been claimed by other countries. But, it is always available another way to break that barrier. Business is always full of creativity.

Gain Wider Coverage Through Blog Advertising

I believe that advertising has been widely used by producers to promote their products or services. Promotion campaigns are placed on ad spots provided by televisions, radios, newspapers, magazines or web portals. That media has been believed to be good advertising campaign because of their wide coverage. Televisions are the best conventional advertising media because they have the widest coverage and were proven to deliver messages effectively. But, that known advertising media were also believed to have the most artificial and guided message. People are driven to received the same messages and sometimes they have to accept untruth message.

It has been born new advertising media that is believed to has wide coverage and effective to deliver honest message to audience. It is called blog advertising. With this kind of advertising media, advertisers products or services are promoted by thousands to millions bloggers. By their nature, bloggers are believed to have honest opinion about products or service they write. And believe or not, there are some bloggers that always being believed by their readers. It is interesting for advertisers to have their products or services are written thousands or millions times with unique perspective for each posts. Wide audience will be covered and the message will be delivered effectively. Advertise on blog is growing bigger and bigger right now. You are not early adopters of that advertising activities if you start to advertise on blog right now. Many advertisers have been benefited from blog advertising. I don't see any reason to argue on that effectiveness.

Do It Yourself Online Logo Design

There are many online Logo Design providers out there. Free service or professional service are provided. I have tried some of that free service myself. Most of them offers standardized logos. Text style logos. If you want logo with graphical images they won't satisfy you. Of course, some sites give you WEB2.0 style logo. But, they are only suitable for web logo, not corporate logo.

Logo is very important for business. It will differentiate a company to another company or a product to another product. As a part of brand logo plays vital role to company or product. If the brand successful in developing its equity logo will be number one thing people will remember. So don't be ridiculous in designing your logo. Hire professional to do it because they know what have to do to create a logo that suit your corporate vision and mission.

I have come to a professional Logo Design provider. An online logo design with a DIY (Do It Yourself) perspective. It provides you with fantastic tool. Very easy to use so that a novice in logo design filed can do a logo design easily.

Very easy in my views because Logo Design has divide the industries. You can choose in what industry your company belongs. Than, you can choose a symbol for your logo. There are many symbols you can pick. The last job you have to do is giving your company name and customize the design. All of that three steps can be done online. If you need professionals to make a logo for you, you can also ask them to do.

fit logo with business card

It is wonderful to know that there is an online logo creator service that gives me ease to design my logo with a cheap price. But, I think I am afraid if some day I will found other company logo which is like mine. I don't know whether the logo creator provider will deactivate a symbol or not if a client have chosen that symbol. It is like a disaster to know that I have a same logo with other company. My company reputation will fall like a plane having engine cut off.

The second thing I have to address my criticism is that I can only coloring my symbol with one color. It will be more OK if I am given ability to divide the symbol into two or more parts and than give different color to the divided area. Logo Design has to provide me with color guide. What color I shall choose if I have chosen a color have to be provided. Even this color guide feature the provider has not had yet.

A logo design provider may not think that clients will know the psychology of color. Even if all clients are expert in that field, logo design provider has to facilitate its tool with color design guide.

Regardless of my criticism to Logo Design I recommend you to use its service to create your logo. I bet that you will be satisfied with the result. Bet me!

Blog for Your Business? Why Not?

I am not talking about business blogging or corporate blogging that have been talked by most of world leading companies so far. I am talking about using blog to do business.

Last year, Komang, my high school classmate asking us (his friends) to help him promoting his business in Bali. He has a tourism business in Bali. He call his business as Bali Driver and Tour Guiding Service. I suggested him to publish a website to promote his business on the internet. A dynamic website.

To my surprise, he wanted me to develop a website of his business. I have no enough skills to develop a webiste. I am zero in webdesign and programming. But, I really wanted to help him. Then, I created a blog for him because a blog will fit two requirements I gave: a website, a dynamic website. With a blog, he will have a dynamic website. I thought that was enough for the starting effort.

I chose BaliGuide.Biz for his blog. Please have a visit of that blog to prove its action.

Everything goes well, I think. He really is benefited by his blog. He can spread stories about Bali -- its culture, food, tourism objects, and agenda. He also can receive order from customers from his blog.

Then, came the second person asking me to give a consultancy (free consultancy of course) to help him promoting his business. The same business ad BaliGuide.Biz. He is Bli Made or Elvys But, his target is foreign tourists. I had a look at his website and suggested some changes. I wanted him to give interactive touch to his business website and promoting his business to tourism and traveling mailing lists and groups.

BaliBlast I and II successfully makes Bali loss its tourists visit. The only stable visit is given by domestic tourist. But. domestic tourists do not spend much money in Bali. That situation only help Bali to survive, not to give them much profit. Bli Made turned his target to domestic tourist and open a blog to grow his business. It is www.wisatabali.biz
